I’ve had my laptop a little over 3 years and it’s been slowing down over the years. For example, it takes a couple minutes to open Mozilla Firefox. Today i opened itunes and noticed that some of my songs wont play. its like they dont exist. If i double click on them it doesn’t do anything. Hello everyone, i just installed a new PSU and GPU. I think i hooked everything up fine, then my PC got shut down twice, i thought it was the CPU overheating. I connected the fan in more tightly, that may have been the problem. However, my CPU is having a hard time running basic programs. My virus protection was malfunctioning for a short time yesterday, and during that time I got a virus. I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. Ive broke my laptop not very long ago, and the laptop was really good thought, it was very fast, no delays, and great. But ive Bought a new laptop, and its no where near as good. I’ve recently discovered that the a virus (Infopass.Gamestealer to be specific) has somehow made its way onto my flash drive. It is most likely from a computer I share with the other four hundred or so at my school, but I’m unsure how to remove the virus as Norton (Yes, I realize that it’s terrible in terms of virus detection, but it’s all I have.) isn’t detecting it when I scan the drive. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista. I downloaded a MS word file which was attached to an email (no viruses, as far as I know). I then right clicked on the icon and renamed the file. A new icon with the new name appeared, and works fine to open the file. The old icon remained on the desktop and will neither open nor delete. Im not sure if it’s got virus. But, when i switch on the laptop it shows the make and the “windows” thing. Shuts down by itself.. And opens automatically. When my computer (XP or Vista) is idle for a few minutes, the read-write lamp begins to flash like a defrag or virus scan is running. When I open the task manager, a “system idle process” seems to be active. I have turned off scheduled defragmenting, windows defender and virus scans, and even in my travel laptop with no antivirus this “dreaming” occures. I am running Windows XP SP3 and am connected to the internet through a Comcast modem and Belkin router. It says my internet connection is excellent and this problem does not occur on the other laptop in the house. I have tried many things and there are no viruses or firewall problems. I decided to run IE’s diagnostic thing. Earlier I kept getting notices from my computer about downloading anti-spyware and how my computer is at risk and how they found a bunch of trojans and worms on my computer. Whenever I try to uninstall Spy Sweeper, I get a prompt saying the uninstall program doesn’t exist (same result whether I do this through Start menu or Add or Remve Programs). I DLed Ccleaner and Revo but they don’t uninstall it either. I also tried reinstalling and then uninstalling but the installation cannot be completed because of an error. Using the cd won’t do the trick either; it cannot complete installation (error message). What may have caused this is a recent system restore that I had executed to prevent the progression of a virus after Spy Sweeper had already been uninstalled (I think). I have Verizon High Speed Internet. Wireless, DSL. I have a Modem. Both my laptop and computer are Windows Vista. HP. I’ve recently discovered that the a virus (Infopass.Gamestealer to be specific) has somehow made its way onto my flash drive. It is most likely from a computer I share with the other four hundred or so at my school, but I’m unsure how to remove the virus as Norton (Yes, I realize that it’s terrible in terms of virus detection, but it’s all I have.) isn’t detecting it when I scan the drive. As a result of this virus being on my frequently used flash drive, I’ve managed to let it drop some malware (Hacktool.Rootkit) onto my personal computer. Norton only ever detects this one when I turn my PC on and never catches it during any of my scans of the computer. Are their any suggestions as to how I can deal with each of them individually, or even both at once? Thank you all for your help!

I’ve always had no problems with getting internet on my computer. Now I can’t connect. I’ve checked and everything is plugged in. I don’t think it is a problem with the cables because I don’t get the message “Local cable disconnected”. All the other computers in my house are working fine. I think that something is wrong with the actual computer. I had a trojan (InternetSecurity2010) before that happened, maybe that has something to do with it? I’ve tried Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Other odd things are happening too…after a few hours or so none of the applications will work (iTunes, microsoft word, etc) and a lot of the words start to disappear. Likeee, the start button at the bottom left corner doesn’t say start, it just is a green blob and when you click on it, it only shows the picture for each application. I’ve run spybot and malwarebytes scans and they both came up with nothing. I dont have any actual antivirus to run because I was in the middle of downloading Kaspersky Anti Virus when it happened and whenever I put in the code, it says that it can’t download because it can’t access the internet. Any ideas?

I’ve been ripping songs off of videos using video2mp3 for a really long while and then a week ago, I got a computer virus–but I don’t think it was from ripping but could it be? Also, if the songs are already on my iPod, does the iPod retain the virus as well yet is just unaffected by the virus? Stupid facebook gave me some nasty viruses. When I logged on, it started popping up very inappropriate sites that I didn’t want to see. It won’t let me open ANYTHING without giving me an error message. I tried to open an anti-virus program but it won’t let me do that either. It keeps popping up a phony virus system that it says I need to buy, but it’s a scam. I’ve already purchased AVG and it’s up to date. I recently bought a laptop over Christmas along with Microsoft 2007 Home & Student and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (they are both on disc/CDs). Do I still need an internet connection for installing them, like if I was required to activate something online? I started in Safe Mode with networking and completed a full virus scan. I ran Chkdsk and it took 18 hours. It replaced bad clusters in about 20 files. Now Windows won’t start. Ok, Norton picked up a few viruses on my computer called JS.SecurityToolFraud and a few others which Norton didn’t give names (They Were Trojans) too. Now Norton Says it got rid of these viruses and i need too take no action. Then i got a notice saying something along the lines of ” A seciruty risk appeared, no futher action needed. Then i got the same notice after about 15 minutes. So Norton hasn’t got rid off it, is there anyways i can ensure that the viruses and the trojans Ps. I think the Trojans name was .dropper or something like that, Norton is still running fine, Internet links from google lead me too ad sites. Had to type this in too the bar at the top. I have been running the free version of AVG for years but it has been causing problems with Internet Explorer 8. I solved it by replacing my AVG with BT Net Protect but now my father is having the same problem and his ISP doesn’t provide any security software. Laptop: Lenovo Y410 OS: win XP sp3 AntiVirus: Norton Internet Security 2009 Back in the Philippines, I was using my laptop normally. No problems. I could connect to the internet, download stuff with p2p, etc. About a week ago, we arrived in Las Vegas and have been living with my uncle’s. I was enjoyed his really really fast internet (well, compared to my connection back in the Philippines, It was incredibly fast). I was able to download stuff of interest and also surf normally. The problem occurred after I visited a pornsite (and I’ve been visiting this pornsite back then so, I had confidence that It didn’t pose a threat to my system) (and please, I don’t give a **** about what you think about me If I visit porn sites) My laptop started hanging. I have to hold the power button just to turn it off. Usually, windows would show an error that “the laptop didn’t turn off properly” blah blah… It didn’t. After my next attempts of rebooting the laptop, about 5 minutes into operation, it would slow down, and after a few seconds, it would freeze and after trying to run task manager, it would sound off a loud beep that wouldn’t end unless I turn off the laptop by holding the power button. This happens when I’m connected to the net. This also happens when I’m not connected but gives my laptop more normal run time, and eventually hangs. I tried running system restore, It said that “it couldn’t help solve the problem”. I tried running system restore while in safe mode and it was successful. I rebooted back into normal and the same problem occurred (hang, loud beep). I tried doing a system scan in safemode (since in normal mode, it would hang right away), and it found 1 threat (mebroot) and said (Norton) to have resolved it. Fortunately, I had a back up OS (win XPsp3 again installed on a separate partition). I ran it, and connected to the internet. I surfed to google, fry’s, target, (since I was shopping for stuff). After about 20 minutes into browsing, the same thing happened to my laptop (without browsing porn). It hanged, and sounded a loud beep again. My laptop is a year old, and warranty doesn’t cover it any more. I want to know if I’m having hardware problems or software problems. Thanks! Happy New Year!

My sons have an HP one year old laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Of course, just turned a year old two days ago and warranty is now up. There is not a lot of software on this thing. I installed ESET Nod32 and it runs well. I just scanned and there are no threats found. No popups are appearing in IE. There is no sign of a virus anywhere. There are multiple problems that I cannot figure out. When we try to shut the computer down, it gets stuck in Logging Off screen. I try Ctrl Alt Delete to bring up Task Manager but it will not appear. I get the Icon down in the lower right part of the screen, but cannot click on it to open it up. I tried to do a System Restore. I select it, but nothing happens. When I try doing it all over again, it says that it is already running, but it is not. I have tried uninstalling things they dont need but the uninstall freezes up also and when i hit cancel, it just remains cancelling without doing anything. I am usually pretty good at fixing things but this one has me stumped. If I could just do a restore, i feel like i could get it back to where it was before this started happening a couple of days ago,. Any help is appreciated.

OMFG it JUST took me 25 minutes just to load up yahoo answers. My computer is REALLT slow now [laptop] Here are the things i used. Regardless its still slow. 1. Malwarebytes - Used that and no malicious items were found 2. AVG Free 9.0 - Scanned today [also updated] and no infections found 3. Disk Defragement - I did that today but still slow 4. CCleaner - Cleaned registry, yet it is still slow 5. Cookies and Squlite files - delete those everyday, yet my computer is still slow 6. Avast - Scanned for viruses and non were found, yet my computer STILL goes slow. its not my specs or anything. Even when i play games [there are no games on here] it laggs and my specs are above recommendation. When i exit game, computer goes ******* slow as hell so i know its not my specs. Out of no where. I keep getting messages that pop up stating that my computer is infected, danger, attention, etc… then it tells you to download or continue unprotected. Uniblue does make a AntiSpyware for computers called Spy Eraser. However as this one appears to be legite, its comprimising my computer. After searching for the file I found it not as a program on the computer, but as a file in System32. Every two minutes those messages come up. I can not exit the program or disable it. It appears as if its a legitimate program, an icon on the bar next to the clock and one implanted on the desk top. However I ran all my spyware programs, anti-virus’ programs and id failed to detect it. So I instaled MalwareBytes and it found it, and removed it. I ran it twice and everything else twice. Three hours later while the computer was siting, the message popped up. The icon reappeared on the desktop. The message continues every two minutes. Each message is similar but a little different from the rest. However it never changes its motive. I ran MalwareBytes again, it detected the infected files. So I did some research and found that I should use a program called RegCure to eliminate the rest of the files that were not being removed under the registry. It found 1242 infected files, and fixed them. However, I still find myself in the same boat. However I was told that I may not need to re-install the Windows, XP. Any suggestions before I move ahead on the reinstallation.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed in my HCL laptop. Last month i was encrypting my external hard disk with “bit locker drive encryption”. It started normally, but suddenly after 49%, it stuck, displaying an error: “An error occurred. This disk has one or more errors, run chkdsk/r, if the error persist this may be indicative of a hardware fault…” I then thought to decrypt my data back and to disable the protection. When I tried doing this, after some time my PC hanged and the operation got aborted. When I restarted my system, i found that the disk is not being detected. It is not shown in “computer”, although the disk lights were on. I tried running the hard disk in “Ubuntu OS”, it works there, but all my data is encrypted. My hard disk is absolutely fine and OK. There is no problem with hardware and no virus is there in my PC as well. What to do now? How can i get my data back and how can i decrypt my harddisk? Please help, since this data worths me a lot. My computer was running just fine until I visited a normal, news website, one that I visited a 1000 times, and my computer became infected with one of those Fake “Anti-Spyware” viruses. I used both Super Anti-spyware and Malwarebyte’s malware programs to finally get rid of that virus, and I rebooted my computer. The virus is gone, my computer is running fine again, except I can’t use the Internet Explorer or Safari web browsers (I’m using Netscape now).
